A Little History
The origins of Choripan date back to rural areas in the mid-19th century, when gauchos began including roasts in all their celebrations, placing them between two pieces of bread.
At some point, this spread to the large cities, where it gained strength and popularity, which makes a lot of sense considering urban life is quite fast-paced. City dwellers are always ready to enjoy delicious food that doesn’t require long cooking processes.
To make your own Choripan, simply grill some chorizo, prepare a sauce if you like, and place it inside two pieces of French bread or any other bread of your choice.
Curiosities
As delicious as they are curious, Choripanes are quite remarkable. I bet that when you enjoyed one at a street vendor, you never thought that renowned chefs might consider them a great dish. Yet, the truth is that they have been crowned as one of the top 10 favorite dishes across Argentina; and it's no wonder, considering that approximately 600 million choripanes are consumed each year—astonishing, isn’t it?
This number tends to increase during the Football World Cups, as many associate them with these matches.
They are even mentioned on Argentine TV shows, such as the reality show "MTV Caniggia Libre," where they are also featured in the theme song, particularly in the chorus.
